Review and Content Policy

  • Last updated: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
  • Version: draft-1

This policy covers reviews, replies, comments, questions, app listings and interview content, and explains reports, takedowns and appeals.

1. What good reviews look like

  • Say what you actually experienced. Rating plus a short comment.
  • Stick to the app and your use of it. Criticise the product, not the person.
  • State facts you can stand behind; mark opinion as opinion.
  • Reviews earned by genuine use. A "Says they tried it" label comes only from your own published review.

2. Not allowed

  • Fake, paid, incentivised or swapped reviews; reviews by the maker, their family or staff of their own app.
  • Brigading, vote rings, many accounts (including accounts made with temporary or disposable email addresses), coordinated rating campaigns.
  • Harassment, hate, threats, doxxing, sexual content involving minors, content that is illegal where we operate.
  • Statements of fact about a person or business you know to be false, or that accuse people of crimes without basis (defamation).
  • Spam, ads, referral links, malware, personal data of others.
  • Impersonation or false labels. "Declared by maker" is the maker's own claim; do not misuse labels.

Comments never affect the rating, ranking, Standing or badges. Nothing paid influences ranking.

3. How makers may take part

Makers can reply to reviews, ask for specific feedback (clearly labelled), mark a review "Fixed in vX", and answer questions (marked "Maker"). Makers cannot edit or delete reviews or others' comments, and cannot upvote their own app. Reviews from known contacts carry no ranking weight.

4. Reporting

Any signed-in member can report an app, review, comment or question. Reporter identity and report details are never shown to the person reported. After enough reports from accounts with sufficient Standing, content is hidden automatically pending review by a person. Automatic hiding is not a finding of wrongdoing. Anomalies (young-account clusters, report bursts) are flagged for a person to check, never punished automatically.

5. Takedown requests (outside reports)

If you are not a member or you believe something is unlawful, defamatory or infringes your rights, send [TAKEDOWN EMAIL] with:

  1. what you want removed and its link;
  2. who you are and your relationship to it;
  3. why it is unlawful, false or infringing, with evidence;
  4. a statement that your request is accurate and made in good faith.

We will acknowledge within 72 hours and decide within 7 days (urgent legal cases faster). Possible outcomes: no action, label added, content hidden, or removal. The author is told what was decided and why, without revealing the reporter. [COUNSEL CHECK C6]

6. What moderators do

Hide, restore, edit a label, remove, warn, adjust Standing earned through abuse, restrict or suspend accounts. Every action is logged with a reason. Content is soft-deleted and versions are retained for audit; removal from public view is immediate, deeper erasure follows the Privacy Policy or legal need.

7. Appeals

  • Makers can appeal decisions about their apps from their maker home.
  • A separate appeal path for members' content or account decisions is not included in this policy at this time.
  • A different moderator than the original reviews the appeal where possible.
  • Target answer within 14 days. The decision and reason are shown to you.
  • Outcome options: upheld, reversed, or changed. Decisions on illegal content may not be reversible.

8. Founder interviews

Quotes are verbatim from the founder's approved text. Founders approve the edited version before publication, and can ask for correction or removal at any time.

9. Repeat violations

Repeated or serious violations may lead to suspension or removal of the account and its Standing. Evading a decision is itself a violation.
